Rossford car dealer arrested for criminal conduct

James Jacob Bernard, the owner of Jake’s used cars in Rossford, was arrested for criminal conduct after several customers complained about him to the Rossford Police Department.

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) - When you buy a car from a dealer you expect to not only to get the car, but also the title.

James Jacob Bernard, the owner of Jake's used cars in Rossford, was arrested for criminal conduct after several customers complained about him to the Rossford Police Department.

The Wood County prosecuting attorney says complaints about Bernard have been pouring in. Overall 11 charges have been filed, each one from a different victim.

Right now, Bernard is being held at the Wood County Justice Center on a $50,000 bond.

Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson says Bernard is accused of not delivering promised cars to paying customers and not giving customers the title after sale.

Last week, the Wood County Grand Jury indicted Bernard on felony charges that could carry both jail time and a fine.

But it doesn't stop there: Following a search warrant and investigation, charges were also filed in the Perrysburg Municipal Court for more felonies.

"This is an unusual situation. I mean, I've never seen anything to this extent," said Dodson.

Dobson recommends asking the car dealer to see the title before purchase, doing research on both the dealer and the car, and checking with the Better Business Bureau.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information call the Rossford Police Department or the Wood County Prosecutor's Office.
