Anna the comfort dog helps those grieving in Toledo

Anna is a comfort dog who now calls the Trinity Lutheran Church and School home.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - People in Toledo now have a new way to help cope with tragedy.

Anna is a comfort dog who now calls the Trinity Lutheran Church and School home.

Sunday a "pass the leash" ceremony was held before morning services. Leaders at the church say Anna can be helpful in tragic situations like fires, shootings and natural disasters.

But Anna isn't just for people at the church. Church leaders also plan on taking her out into the community.

"We're not just for our church, we're for the Toledo area, the Northwest Ohio area, and if necessary, we could be deployed to places. These dogs have been to places such as Sandy Hook and the Boston bombings," said Nancy Borders, program facilitator. "Any type of a disaster where there's suffering and loss, and need for a little bit of respite for these people so they can just sit and be comforted by the dogs."

You can follow Anna on her Facebook page here.
