MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) - A local elementary school is in the running for a new $25,000 playground as part of an online contest.
Waterloo Elementary in Monroe is one of 12 finalists in the Bridgestone Fuel the Cause Transformation contest.
The winner of the contest will be the school that has the highest number of online votes by the end of April.
According to the contest website the deteriorating playground equipment the school used to have had to be removed and all that's left is uneven blacktop.
The school will be holding a "Playground Pep Rally" on Thursday, April 17 at 2:30pm to drum up support.
IPads will be available from Monroe Public Schools so people can vote at the pep rally.
Waterloo is the only elementary from Michigan and Ohio in the contest.
