ROSSFORD, OHIO (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Somepeople in Rossford are outraged by a local business looking to set up shop in aformer church.
"It'san abomination," said Kate Juhasz.
Theold Saint Cyril Church has been vacant for years, but now it could re-open as abrewery. Juhasz says opening a brewery in the middle of a neighborhood, insidea former church, is a horrible idea.
"Ifanything, they should turn that into a senior citizen housing, renovate it forpeople," she said. "To have a brewery in the middle of a neighborhood isabsolutely absurd."
Butcity officials say the business would be a manufacturing facility, and wouldpotentially bring new jobs to the area.
"I'mnot objected to it, as long as it brings in more jobs," said Tim Konwinski. "Aslong as it keeps the area safe."
Safetyis exactly what Juhasz is worried about.
"Yousee it on the news, where people leave the bar and they're drunk and they getinto fights, and sometimes there have been physical altercations and the policeare called in," she said.
It'scurrently unclear if there will be a bar inside the facility. City officialssay the idea will be discussed further before any final decision is made.
"Thisis a quiet neighborhood. This is a nice neighborhood," Juhasz said. "There area lot of kids that live in this neighborhood, young children. We don't needthat."
Thebuilding owner could not be reached for comment.
