Dragon boats overtake Maumee River for a good cause

The 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival took place on Saturday.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival took place on Saturday on the Maumee River in Downtown Toledo.

30 teams from area companies competed.

The 40 foot Hong Kong style boats raced up and down the river with 20 crew members, which included a steersman and a drummer.

The fundraiser was for "Partners in Education."

"We are assisting with the Diocese and Toledo Public Schools with over 800 activities, college preparation programs and out of school excellence," said Partners in Education member, Becky Spencer.

$50,000 was raised for the group.

Trophies were awarded for various categories such as Best Team Spirit and Most Organized Team.
