SR 2 reopens in Erie Co. after crews detonate suspicious device

Ohio State Highway Patrol tells us SR 2 is closed between SR 60 and 61 in Eastern Erie County due to reports of a possible explosive device found by an ODOT worker.

ERIE COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Ohio State Highway Patrol tells us SR 2 has reopened between SR 60 and 61 in Eastern Erie County due to reports of a possible explosive device.

Crews later detonated what an ODOT worker originally described as a "pipe bomb."

However, after detonation crews say it was not a pipe bomb after all. Still, it was a suspicious device and investigators weren't able to identify it immediately. So, it's being sent for further testing to find out what it really was.

The Lorain County Bomb Squad assisted in the detonation and investigation.
