TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The results of a performance audit for Toledo Public Schools are in.

If TPS implements all 169 recommendations as a result of the audit conducted by Evergreen Solutions, they could have $101 million in net savings over the next five years.

It's likely TPS will only implement about half of those recommendations, but they have a lot to look over before any decisions are made.

The audit was thorough. In three months, nine operational areas were reviewed by a team of eight. Surveys were conducted with staff, 23 schools and other sites were visited, data and reports were examined, and the results were revealed Wednesday night.

"Like any other school district, some things are efficient and effective…about 50 of them in the report, and about 170 recommendations for ways that they can improve," said Linda Recio, president of Evergreen Solutions.

Of the 169 recommendations given, only 61 of them have financial implications. Some of these included selling 56 buses, canceling 200 dead phone lines, cuts to 15 assistant principal positions, the consolidation of a K-8 school, and other staffing cuts.

The audit also applauded TPS's transformation plan, online classes, school crisis plans, and more.

"We got a pretty accurate report, I think, a pretty full report, and we have a lot to look at," said School Board President Brenda Hill. "Bottom line is, the education for the students."

The next steps will be fixing factual errors and getting the final report before any recommendations can be implemented. A final report is expected by the beginning of May.
