TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Seagate Food Bank unveiled a "Wall of Green" project Friday, which will be expanded into the community. The wall promotes Seagate's commitment to providing fresh food to its clients.
Rows of strawberries are stacked and ready to grow. The food will be picked and provided to people as a fresh alternative to the usual canned and processed meals.
Representative Marcy Kaptur was out with leaders of the food bank Friday morning to help build the wall.
"We already have a very long history in the greenhouse industry and the growing industries. Now we're talking about doing it at the neighborhood level, recapturing, relearning the skills, and adding high-tech," said Kaptur. "We are so rich. You can literally stick your finger in the ground anywhere in Toledo or the Toledo area and products will grow."
Gardens like this will be added to senior centers and low-income housing sites across the region.
