WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - There will soon be another way to get alerts that could save your life. With a new Wireless Emergency Alert system, if you have a cell phone, you will automatically get warnings- no matter where you are.

The wood county emergency management agency promoted this new tool on Facebook. If you have a cell phone from a major wireless carrier, you will get free messages saying you may be in danger.

"Finding the impacted area and really locating those towers within that impacted area. So literally you could be anywhere in the country, not know where you are at, if you are just traveling through some location, and actually receive a warning for that specific area." said Wood County EMA Director Brad Gilbert.

Basically, if you are driving on the other side of Ohio- or anywhere else- if there is severe weather in that area, the alert will get to your phone, and it is completely free!

You can call your wireless provider for more information.
