DETROIT (AP) - A large bronze statue has turned up at the bottom of the Detroit River more than eight years after it went missing from a suburban war memorial.

Detroit police dive teams discovered the statue of a woman Wednesday morning during a training exercise.

The statue was raised to the surface and identified as one placed at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in the 1940s. It went missing more than eight years ago.

Memorial president Mark Weber tells WDIV-TV the statue is in good condition despite a few zebra mussels.

The statue is worth about $100,000.
