Fire destroys Temperance, Michigan home

The fire happened on Summerfield Rd. just north of Smith Rd.

TEMPERANCE, Mich. — A Temperance, Michigan family was forced to find a new place to stay on Saturday evening after their home suffered heavy damage in a fire.

Fortunately no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The fire started around 4:45 p.m. at a home on the 6700 block of Summerfield Rd. just north of Smith Rd. according to Bedford Township Fire Department.

Firefighters say heavy fire in the garage then spread to the attic of the home.

Fire in the garage also caught a car that was in the driveway of the home to catch on fire.

Crews battled the fire from inside and outside the home using a ladder truck to douse the flames from above.

By about 7:15 the fire appeared to be extinguished as smoke was rising from the garage and attic.

Bedford fire says the house is a total loss.

Four fire departments from the area responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
