SPRINGFIELD TWP. (WTOL) - Sixty people have been displaced and another person has yet to be located after a fire broke out at a Springfield Township apartment complex Sunday morning.

This happened near Bancroft and McCord at Lake of the Woods Apartments. The fire started around 1 a.m.

Eight units caught on fire in a 24-unit building, and authorities anticipate damage to the other 16.

“I called 911 and I was just pacing back and forth waiting for people to come out. It took a while and a dog actually jumped out of the second story window and, it was crazy," said Liz Turski, a resident of Lake Woods.

Firefighters are still fighting hot spots and believe that putting the fire out will take at least until late in the afternoon.

“We’re still looking for one resident from this building, so we’re still doing some accountability on that aspect, but right now with a number of agencies here, we have Monclova, Toledo, Richfield, Sylvania, Springfield," said Springfield Township assistant fire chief Rick Helminski.

The Red Cross was also on the scene to assist and will be establishing a shelter if necessary.

According to Andrew Sauder, the public information officer for Springfield Township Fire Department, an excavator is currently on site. They are taking down one of the walls to investigate.
