Freedom the Cat finds furrever home

In about three months, a bruised kitty will come home forever.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - For some officers, it’s more than just a case.

"When Freedom is fully recovered from everything, my wife and I intend to adopt him. We’re going to take him in and give him his home,” Officer Bill Cashen said.

Sgt. Bill Cashen took the lead on Freedom’s case. He sought out the two teenage boys who beat the kitty with a baseball bat last December in east Toledo.

“After we started looking at the case, I started discussing with the wife right away that maybe we should just take him in. She sided with me,” Cashen said, chuckling.

Since their decision, Cashen and his wife have been preparing their home for feline. His wife has sewn blankets with Freedom’s name embroidered on them. They realize they may be taking on a cat who develops special needs after his injuries. Yet they say it’s a challenge they and their family of four cats are ready for.

Freedom is currently recovering from two infections related to his beating. Once he heals from those, vets will begin more aggressive treatment.
