Landover, MD (WOIO) - Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel split reps throughout the first half on Thursday, but once again neither quarterback could find the end zone, as the Browns fell to the Redskins, 24-23 at FedEx Field.
Hoyer completed only two passes in five series, while Manziel went 7 of 16 for 65 yards, with his most memorable moment coming late in the third quarter, when he flipped off the Redskins bench. Manziel did find the end zone eventually, however, hooking up with Dion Lewis for an 8-yd touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Jim Leonhard followed that up by picking off a pass and taking it 19 yards to the house to give the Browns a 17-14 lead. But Colt McCoy answered with a 30-yard strike to Nick Williams to put Washington up 24-17.
Connor Shaw, the Browns' third-string rookie quarterback, provided one final bit of drama when he connected with Emmanuel Ogbuehi on a 45-yard Hail Mary as time expired, but the Browns two-point conversion attempt failed.
