Feed the Children distributes food and essentials to families

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

1 in 3 children living in Montgomery, about 34 percent, are considered impoverished. Feed the Children, an organization out of Montgomery, is working to change that.

On Wednesday, January 15th, two semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials were delivered to Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. These items were distributed to families, which the church had pre-identified.

Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care. This distribution is part of Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped hundreds of thousands of families across the country since it began in 2009.

"Many of the families on the Americans Feeding Americans Caravan considered themselves middle class just a few short years ago. Now they are making hard choices between paying bills and feeding their families," said Kevin Hagan, President and CEO of Feed The Children. "With the help of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, we can help make that choice a little easier for families struggling in this economy."

Other iterations included the Blades, the Hornets, the Goaldiggers and the Storm. For a short time, in 1949-50, the team was actually called the Toledo Buckeyes.
