NEWPORT BEACH, CA (RNN) - Love is the reason for the fight.

It seems like a contradiction. Those are not two concepts that fit together as a unifying mantra.

That is, unless you're a football team that hears constant comparisons between the great teams that played before you.

Unless you have to circle the wagons around a star player accused of rape while at the same time accepting the glaring spotlight that only a Heisman race can bring.

Unless you're Florida State - a team that always seems to have a world of obstacles that few others can imagine.

"We love each other. We're brothers," center Bryan Stork said. "We're all doing the same thing, and we fight for each other."

Wide receiver Jarred "Scooter" Haggins said it's a motto Jimbo Fisher kept uttering when he first became head coach, and it has caught on.

Haggins appreciates the saying and what it means as much as anyone.

Described by some of his teammates as the least talkative person on the team, he has also had a relatively quiet playing career due to injuries. A stress fracture in his knee kept him off the field the entire 2013 season, and he has caught just 20 passes in three years.

But there wasn't an inkling of resentment in his voice as he spoke.

"Just knowing that we have the support of everybody from the training room to the equipment staff to coaches to our team, that's what makes us a successful team," Haggins said.

Injuries or controversy - it doesn't seem to faze the Seminoles. There is always someone around to pick up the slack.

More importantly, they're always willing to pick up each other.

"There's a lot of people in my life that sacrificed for me to be here, and it was out of love," receiver Rashad Greene said. "Love is the reason for the fight; and I love my teammates, I love my coaches, and we all love each other. So that's our team motto and a personal motto for myself is love is the reason for the fight."
