Toledo football keeps rolling, beats Miami to extend winning streak to 7

In the premier matchup of the MAC season so far, the Rockets beat the RedHawks 21-17 to stay unbeaten in the conference.

OXFORD, Ohio — The University of Toledo football team has pushed their winning streak to seven after beating Miami (OH) on Saturday.

The Rockets took a 21-3 lead into halftime and held on to beat the RedHawks, 21-17, in what was the premier matchup of the Mid-American Conference season so far.

Both teams entered the day unbeaten in the MAC and 6-1 overall on the season, but with the win, the Rockets now move to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Quarterback Dequan Finn accounted for all three touchdowns in the game. The junior was 16-28 passing for 160 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown as well.

The defense forced a crucial turnover in the final minutes of the game, recovering a fumble that would seal the deal for Toledo.

"We had some big defensive stops in the second half and we were very efficient on offense in the first half," said Toledo head coach Jason Candle. "Credit Miami with some really good defensive stops on third down. Our third-down percentage was uncharacteristically low and a lot of that had to do with them giving us problems, stacking the box at the line of scrimmage. Winning games on the road in this conference is difficult to do. That's a good football team we just played. I'm really happy for our guys to come out with a win. I'm really proud of the defensive effort, especially in the second half."

The Rockets now get ready for mid-week MACtion on Tuesday, Oct. 31 when they take on Buffalo at the Glass Bowl.
