TOLEDO (WTOL) -
The season is wrapping up and the buoys are being brought in before ice can damage them this winter.
We started October with Lake Erie being the warmest it's been this late in the season in 5 years.
But the clouds and cool weather the past few weeks have really changed that.
Now, we only trail 2013 for the coolest average Lake Erie temperature.
As a whole the lake still has enough warm water to allow lake effect snow to develop when we get into November and December.
If you’re wondering when ice starts to typically form, that isn’t until mid-December or early January.
Black line tracks Lake Erie’s average temperature this year. In October the lake has gone from the warmest in the past 5 years to one of the chilliest.
