Forecast: Afternoons stay warmer than average through the weekend

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Storm Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — A warming trend continues here in Central Texas as we kick off the month of December. Afternoon highs through the weekend will be about 10 to 15 degrees above the average for this time of the year.

As humidity continues to build, expect another round of patchy fog and low clouds to develop Thursday morning. This will give way to a mostly to partly sunny sky by the afternoon. Highs on Thursday will likely reach the upper 70s. A few of the warmest locations could even reach 80 degrees!

Our next opportunity for rain will come Friday thanks to a weak disturbance. Most will stay dry, but a few widely isolated showers or even a rumble of thunder will be possible, especially for areas southeast of Austin. Despite some added cloud cover, highs on Friday will still reach the mid to upper 70s.

A weak cold front will stall just to our northwest on Saturday. This means we stay in the same humid and warm weather pattern through the weekend. Expect mainly dry weather for both Saturday and Sunday with afternoon highs remaining in the mid to upper 70s.

A stronger front then swings through Central Texas Sunday night into Monday morning. This front could bring a few isolated showers and storms Monday morning, but at this point looks like it will struggle to bring much rain. Highs behind the front will briefly drop back to the 60s by Monday afternoon.

The cool down will be short-lived as temperatures quickly rebound to the low and mid 70s on Tuesday as we go back to a southerly wind. Long range models are suggesting another cold front could arrive on Wednesday, but we'll have to iron out those details as we get closer.

Partly cloudy with patchy fog possible. Southwest wind at 5 mph.
LOW: 53°

Morning fog then partly cloudy to mostly sunny and warm. South-southwest wind at 5-10 mph.
HIGH: 79°

Clouds increase overnight. Patchy fog possible. South-southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.
LOW: 59°
