OSHP: Wrong-way driver causes fatal crash in Ottawa Co.

The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Two other people involved in the crash suffered from incapacitating injuries, according to police.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — Troopers are investigating a crash in Danbury Township that left one person dead and two others suffering from incapacitating injuries.

Late Friday night, Burlyn Fick, 82, of Port Clinton, was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes on State Route 2 on the Edison Bridge when he struck another car head-on, according to police.

Police say Christian Maple, 17, of Marblehead and Maria Dejesus Rodriguez, 18, of Norwalk, suffered incapacitating injuries and were transported to the hospital. 

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to police. 

The incident is still under investigation and police say the use of alcohol or drugs is unknown at this time. 

Troopers were assisted by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Erie County Sheriff's Office, Danbury Township Police Department, Danbury Township Fire & EMS, Margaretta Township Fire & EMS, U.S. Border Patrol, Ohio Department of Transportation, Wilson's Towing and Repair and Central Automotive and Radiator.
