Troopers investigating fatal crash in Erie Co.

A 70-year-old man was driving southbound on SR-4 when his car traveled left of center and struck a semi-trailer going northbound head-on.

ERIE COUNTY, Ohio — Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle crash that took place Wednesday morning in Groton Township and left one person dead. 

Robert Loconsole, 70, was going southbound on SR-4 when his car traveled left of center and struck a semi-trailer head-on before rotating and coming to rest off on the west side of the road. 

Loconsole was severely injured and was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Michael Williams, 45, who was driving the semi suffered from minor injuries. 

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. 

Alcohol or drugs use are unknown at this time. The crash is still under investigation. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Erie County Sheriff's Office, Groton Township Fire Department, Erie County Coroner's Office, North Central EMS, Spilltek and Madison's Towing.
