SYLVANIA, Ohio — The city of Sylvania announced long-term road closures Wednesday, ahead of a construction project intended to widen Monroe Street and replace a bridge.

In a closure notice, officials announced Sylvania City Council had awarded a contract to Fremont-based company Mosser Construction regarding a roadway project. Construction will include widening Monroe Street between Silica Drive and Main Street, in addition to a complete replacement of the Silica Drive bridge over Tenmile Creek, officials said.

Beginning March 27, authorities will close eastbound Monroe Street between Silica Drive and Main Street to accommodate construction. Meanwhile, crews will maintain one lane of westbound traffic on Monroe Street between Silica and Main.

Lastly, the Silica Drive bridge will also close for the duration of the project.

The road closures are expected to last the duration of the construction, which is projected to continue through July, or approximately 120 days.

Crews will establish a detour for eastbound Monroe Street via Sylvania-Metamora Road, Sylvania Avenue, Holland-Sylvania Road and Harroun Road.

City officials asked that questions regarding the project be directed to the City of Sylvania Department of Public Service at 419-885-8965.
