MONROE, Michigan — A man is in the hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Monroe early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 2:50 a.m. on N. Custer Rd. near Ann Marie Dr.

Police say the vehicle left the road and hit several trees and two utility poles and was on fire when responding units arrived.

Police say the driver had already exited the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was the only one in the vehicle.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Police say N. Custer Rd. and the bicycle/pedestrian path will likely remain closed for several hours until utility crews can fix the poles and low-hanging wires.

Although there is a short detour posted, police advise drivers to seek an alternate route.
