Corey Road bridge to close over I-475

Roadwork is set to begin Monday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Starting Monday, there will be more roadwork in the west Toledo area.

Here's how accessing I-475 might become a little trickier over the next month or so:

From Monday, July 15 through mid-August, ODOT officials said Corey Road will be closed over I-475.This project was set to begin sooner, but ODOT representatives wanted to give drivers enough notice and time to prepare. It's also conveniently missing all traffic related to this week's nearby Marathon Classic.

Local businesses have seen construction impacts through this area before, and know that their customers will be able to manage.

"I'm sure it will frustrate a few people, not be able to take their usual route to get here, but if you're from the area, you probably know a way to get around it," Whiteford Greenhouse manager Greg Barrow said.

Ramps to and from I-475 will remain open, you just won't be able to use the bridge to access them.

In the meantime, to detour, you can take Corey to Central Avenue to Talmadge Road to Sylvania Avenue.

"They are going to do a concrete overlay, and that helps us as a preventative maintenance keep the bridge going for the future, but you will not be able to get across that bridge for the 21-day closure," ODOT spokesperson Rebecca Dangelo.

The closure is set on a rigorous schedule, weather dependent.

Once it's reopen, it may take a few weeks to get the finish work done.

Starting Friday night, work will take place overnight from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Lane restrictions are possible on I-475 between Holland-Sylvania Road and Talmadge Road in both directions for work on the Corey Road bridge above.

Whiteford Greenhouse will remain open, as always, 7 days a week through the end of the year. They're also currently running sales on many flowers, plants and more that you can still plant this late in the season.
