Another road project completed in west Toledo

Monroe Street from Secor Road to Sylvania Avenue is no longer covered in orange barrels, cones and signs.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Check it off the list: another section of road construction is now complete in west Toledo.

Monroe Street from Secor Road to Sylvania Avenue is no longer covered in orange barrels, cones and signs.

This small stretch of roadway is one of the busiest in our area and many people say they are glad to see progress.

"Every time they have done something in this immediate area, it has improved the traffic pattern. Even though it is a lot of traffic...like the rush hour times. Other than that, I think that people are making it through just fine," said Dave Shoffer, owner of nearby Prodigy Music Company.

Along with resurfacing, safety improvements were added to the intersections, such as drop lanes and medians for those turning off the road. That will not only to make it easier to get around this area, but it will also help prevent some of those left turn and rear-end crashes.

That wasn't the only stretch of road covered in orange barrels, another project timeline in west Toledo has been pushed back, but only by about a week.

"We've done the same thing west of Talmadge. And then, last Tuesday, we started to do work between Talmadge and Sylvania. So, that's the last phase that we have to do. That's going to be going on through October. We're going to be doing the outside lanes, then we'll do the inside lanes, then we'll pave it," said Doug Stephens, Administrator for the City of Toledo Department of Engineering.

Counting all the finishing touches, such as signals and overhead signs, the entire stretch of road along Monroe Street, from the city limits past Franklin Park Mall over to central Toledo, the project is set to wrap up just before Thanksgiving.

This way, construction shouldn't be an issue for the stores in that area, especially for the mall, when the holiday shopping rush comes.
