One killed, 2 injured in crash on West Alexis Road

Police say a driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming car driven by William Gergich Jr., who was killed in the crash.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Two people are injured and one is dead after a crash in the 2100 block of West Alexis Road

The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. Thursday near W. Rowland Road. Police say Joshua Whitaker, 31, of Erie, Michigan, was driving eastbound on Alexis when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed Alexis into oncoming traffic. 31-year-old William Gergich Jr. of Holland, traveling west, struck Whitaker's vehicle.

Gergich, Whitaker and Gergich's passenger all required extrication by Toledo Fire & Rescue department.

Whitaker and Gergich were hospitalized. While at the hospital, Gergich died from his injuries.

West Alexis Road was closed for several hours while rescue crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
