TOLEDO (WTOL) - Easter is Sunday. If you have plans to go to church and eat a big meal, the Cherry Street Mission recommends you do the same with them.

“The life has ups and downs and if you are able to come in one of your ups and help the people who are in their downs, it’s awesome because God has called us to do that and to serve,” said Maria Alvarez.

She is volunteering at Cherry Street Mission with others from the local chapter of Regnum Christi. They're helping in the kitchen, serving food and just visiting with people.

“We are here to give them a smile, happy moments and experience as well,” said Alvarez.

The Cherry Street Mission is always looking for volunteers to serve in the Mac Street Cafe and visit with people and Easter Sunday is no different, though there will be some special activities.

“We start the day with a great breakfast at 7 a.m. and then we have a church service at 8 a.m., goes to about 8:30 a.m., some local churches helping us with that, open to the entire community,” said Max Lambdin of the Cherry Street Mission.

There will also be a special menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Sunday that includes ham and all the fixings. Cherry Street is still looking for volunteers to help serve lunch on Easter. If you can't make it, you can come out any day of the year.

Alvarez says it's an opportunity you won't regret.

“You are going to come to help them, but at the end of the day you know you are going to be more happy and with love that you came," she explained.
