Not so fast.
Cleveland Browns General Manager, John Dorsey has shut down reports of the team being interested in interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the head coaching position.
On Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Browns wanted to talk with Condoleeza Rice about their coaching vacancy. The report sent social media into a frenzy.
However, while Dorsey says he has the "utmost respect and admiration for all that she's accomplished" the report is simply not true and Rice has not been discussed as a potential candidate.
“Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great leader, possesses the highest possible character and also happens to be a Browns fan. I have the utmost respect and admiration for all she’s accomplished and was honored to meet her for the first time earlier this season. Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed.”
If the interview were to happen, Rice would become the first woman ever to interview for a head-coaching job in the NFL. To date, only three women have been on NFL coaching staffs. In a post on Facebook, Rice says that's something she hopes will soon change.
