Cleveland Indians have had multiple isolated coronavirus cases

According to Cleveland Indians president Chris Antonetti, the team has had multiple positive coronavirus cases.

As Major League Baseball prepares to return to action next month, multiple teams have reported positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

That group now includes the Cleveland Indians, with team president Chris Antonetti revealing to reporters on Friday that multiple players in the organization have tested positive for the coronavirus in recent weeks.

"We've had a few isolated cases," Antonetti said. "

According to Antonetti, the Indians' positive coronavirus cases consisted of players who had been at their homes in the United States, at the team's Spring Training facility in Goodyear, Arizona, and in the Dominican Republic.

Antonetti said that those who have tested positive have either already recovered or are only showing mild symptoms.

“The encouraging thing on that front is all of those cases have been isolated," Antonetti said.

"There has not been any spread within our environment. Thankfully all of those individuals have either recovered or are only showing mild symptoms."

Earlier this week, MLB owners implemented a 60-game 2020 season with players reporting to a Spring Training 2.0 in their home cities on July 1.

In addition to enacting a number of safety precautions for the regular season that is set to begin on either July 23 or July 24, teams will have a coronavirus-specific injury list for players who have either tested for, are showing symptoms of or have been exposed to the coronavirus.
