MAUMEE (WTOL) - Maumee’s Roby Fairchild is getting a valuable lesson in balancing his schedule.

The Junior is not only a member of the Panthers bowling team, but he’s also the goalie for the hockey team. His success in both has made him WTOL’s Athlete of the Week.

There have been plenty of multi-sport athletes over the years. But Roby Fairchild is taking it one step further. He’s playing two sports during the same season.

His days can be hectic, but he wouldn’t trade it for the world.

“My favorite part of this is just playing sports in general,” said Fairchild. “It’s what I’m all about. I want to coach when I get older. I just want to be part of something.”

Recently, Fairchild got done with school and had a bowling match in Napoleon. That same night, he had to hop in the car and drive straight to Sylvania for a hockey game. The days can be long and tiring, but he’s enjoying the challenge.

“Going from Napoleon to Sylvania, at 5 o’clock at night you still haven’t eaten anything,” said Fairchild. “It’s difficult, but it’s also fun to do.”

“He came right from Napoleon, bowled like a 246 or something, and came and faced Southview and have about 60 shots,” said Maumee Hockey coach Devin Crosser. “It’s one of those things where it’s like ‘what’s gonna give’ but he just keeps working.”

Fairchild also plays on the baseball team at Maumee in the Spring, but when it comes to picking a favorite sport, don’t make him choose.

“It just depends where I’m at at the time,” said Fairchild. “It depends how I’m doing during the season and it’s all just so much fun. I can’t explain it.”

Roby Fairchild is WTOL’s athlete of the week.
