Athlete of the Week: Megan Gibbs of Perrysburg High School

In a win over St. Ursula, Gibbs scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds and then added 10 points in a win over Findlay.

PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Perrysburg girls basketball is getting contributions from a lot of places, but this week, Megan Gibbs is stepping up and she’s our Athlete of the Week.

In a non-league matchup with St. Ursula on Monday, Gibbs went off for 19 points and 10 rebounds to help the Jackets defeat the Arrows.

"Honestly, I don't think going into a game. It's just kind of go play and do whatever I can do," said Gibbs. "The opportunities just come as the game goes along and whenever I can score, I score and whenever I can pass, I pass. Whenever the opportunity comes, I take it."

"She's grown a lot, her game's grown a lot," said Perrysburg head coach Todd Sims. "She's much more diverse offensively, she's good around the basket, she can shoot the three, she's much improved at stretching the court out, she's tough to guard. Her quickness really helps and her shooting ability."

She followed that up with 10 points against Findlay, but she’s not a selfish player.

"I just love to compete. I obviously love to win, but whether it's winning, losing, I just love to be in the game playing against somebody. I like to be busy and try to win."

"She's a team player. She's in it for the team success and not her own success," said Sims. "She doesn't care how many points she scores. She's very much a team player."

Gibbs is also versatile. She’s going to play at Siena Heights in college, but it’s not just for hoops. She will also be playing lacrosse at the next level.

"For the longest time I've always wanted to go and play basketball and then I fell in love with lacrosse in third grade and I couldn't choose," said Gibbs. "Someone who happened to be the coach who I'm going to play for put the idea in my head that I can play both if I go to her school and I ended up falling in love with the school and both sports."

"I know it's going to be hard but I've been a busy kid all my life so I can't imagine not doing both."
