TOLEDO (WTOL) - Bowling Green hockey made its first NCAA tournament appearance in 29 years. They lost in the first round 2-1 in overtime to defending National Champions Minnesota-Duluth.
The Falcons had a 1-0 lead heading into the third period. That goal came off the stick of Brandon Kruse.
But in the third period, a Duluth shot deflected off Falcon goalie Ryan Bednard and then off BG defenseman Chris Pohlkamp to tie the game.
In overtime, Minnesota-Duluth put one in the back of the net.
BGSU Head Coach Chris Bergeron has high expectations for the program.
“It was a really good season, it wasn’t great, because we didn’t win anything,” Bergeron said.
Bergeron went on to say that he wants the team to use their recent losses as motivation moving forward.
“I want last Saturday to hurt. I want tonight to hurt - in a coaching way - I don’t want them to feel the way they feel right now as human beings because that sucks. We’re in the world of athletics and somebody has to lose and we’re gonna be better for it,” he said.
This was a very similar ending to last week’s WCHA championship game, where the Falcons had a 2-0 lead and fell in overtime.
