TIFFIN (WTOL) - Seneca County will soon have a new recovery home for women, and it won’t rely on local tax dollars to operate.

A home on North Washington Street will soon open as a seven-bed recovery home for women in Tiffin.

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties was awarded a $120,000 state capital grant to purchase and renovate the property.

The recovery program will then be funded in part from the rent collected from clients staying here.

With the counties recent success in helping people detox from drug addiction and avoiding jail time, the city of Tiffin needed a centralized location for women to continue that recovery process.

“One thing that was missing was a safe and drug free sober living space, and I think this will really help. We don’t want them to go back to the same environment where the boyfriend is using or the parents are using. So, we really hope that this will help the community even better,” said Mircea Handru, board executive director.

The recovery home is slated to be opened on July 1.
