Want to help clean area rivers? 'Get the lead out' on Wednesday

A group working to keep Toledo's waterways clean will "get the lead out" of the Maumee River on Wednesday.

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) - A group working to keep Toledo's waterways clean will "get the lead out" of the Maumee River on Wednesday.

Partners for Clean Streams, based in Perrysburg, periodically holds events to clean up rivers and streams. Two weeks ago the group had 15 volunteers participate in a "get the lead out" event. Leaders are hoping to see twice as many volunteers help clean fishing lures and line out of the Maumee River on Wednesday.

"People that walk down the river could get caught up in the lead and line and we don't want that. So, were just pulling that out," said Ava Slotnick, Outreach Coordinator for Partners for Clean Streams. "Also, it's a really great way to get people out and into the river and enjoy the river and see what it is. That it's accessible. That it's there to be enjoyed."

The event will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Side Cut Metropark. For more information visit http://www.partnersforcleanstreams.org/.
