NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio — A few local elected officials took the chance to use Flag Day as a chance to honor members of the greatest generation.
Two local veterans who are now residents in North Baltimore's Briar Hill health campus were honored with a presentation of American flags to recognize their service to our country.
Thomas Jacobs and Larry Balko were given a special presentation of American flags today before family and friends.
Jacobs was given a flag flown over the US Capitol by congressman Bob Latta.
Balko, a flag that had once flown over the Ohio State capitol building by State senator Theresa Gavorone.
The event was aimed to make sure that the men who fought for the flag to be raised in victory on battle fields were properly remembered by their community.
"So, when you're able to present them to veterans, that is a special honor for me. Because, they're the ones out there that allow us to go out and fly this flag. And so it's through their service for our nation that we want to thank them to be able to hoist 'old glory' everyday." said Representative Latta
