TOLEDO (WTOL) - Sunday night is the big night for “Game of Thrones” fans eager to get going on the last season of the award-winning show.
If you’re bummed you don’t have HBO or simply want to soak in the undoubtedly epic premiere alongside fellow fans, go no further than Toledo’s Geekeasy.
The bar was created last year and is actually hidden in the basement of another bar called The Distillery. Richard Culbertson and Steve Wherry are the ones who got the ball rolling on the place in the hopes of creating a haven away from the loud atmosphere of a sports or college bar. With classic arcade games, large table tops for board games and movies constantly streaming on their four TVs, the Geekeasy is truly dedicated to all things nerdy.
The bar has been screening episodes of Game of Thrones for weeks now in preparation of the premiere. It’s all been leading up to Sunday’s big event.
Starting at 6 p.m., the last three episodes of season 7 will be played right up until the season 8 premiere at 9 p.m.
Rumor has it, people could be dressing up as their favorite characters. So, why not join in the fun? Even if you end up being the only one dressed up, who cares? As Tywin once said, “A lion does not concern himself with the opinion of sheep.”“I drink and I know things” - Tyrion Lannister
A full list of carefully crafted, “Game of Thrones” themed drinks will be available just for the occasion. Here’s a look at what’s brewing:
Culbertson confirmed a finale party is already in the works. Depending on how the season goes, you may want to stop back in to either celebrate or perhaps commiserate. However, as any fan knows, it’s probably best not to get our hopes up. To quote Ramsay Bolton: "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention.”KEEP ON GEEKIN’ ON
If you can’t make it out to this event, don’t worry. Toledo’s Geekeasy regularly hosts a variety of nerd-themed parties.
On May 5, Star Wars fans can celebrate Star Wars Day for their “Revenge of the Fifth” celebration.
The Geekeasy is located directly below the Distillery at 4311 Heatherdowns in Toledo. Just follow the signs down to the basement.
Their regular business hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. - 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. - 2 a.m.
The premiere actually kicks off the start of their Sunday hours for the season. Normally, they will be open from 4 p.m. until midnight, but this Sunday, they won’t open until 6 p.m.
Get out there quick! As Jon relentlessly stated in season 7, “There is no time!”The premiere is coming.
