TOLEDO (WTOL) - It’s the season of giving and the LPGA Marathon Classic is in the spirit.

They gave out checks on Tuesday to area children’s charities.

The Marathon Classic welcomed the groups to the Pinnacle in Maumee Tuesday afternoon for a program to present the checks.

Bittersweet Farms, Historic South Initiative, Findlay YMCA and so many others will benefit.

Going back to 1984, the summer’s LPGA tournament has not just become Toledo’s best annual sports event, it has raised $10.8 million to children’s charities.

Next year’s Marathon Classic runs the second week of July from Highland Meadows and a local company has stepped forward to help out the cause.

Dana Corp has been added as a presenting sponsor, reflecting a healthy Toledo business climate.

That secures the Classic for the next few years, plus it’ll be televised on the Golf Channel.
