TOLEDO (WTOL) - The Radio Television Digital News Association has recognized work by WTOL photojournalist Joe Cromer with a prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Award.

Cromer’s piece, “Roadside Memorials: Gone ... But Not Forgotten,” covered the touching stories of roadside markers and memorials that often are lain by family and friends at the exact spot where a loved one lost their life.

The work received an “Excellence in Video” award and the entry moves on to the national competition.

The national winners will be presented at the annual RTDNA Gala at Gotham Hall in New York City in October.

This year’s winners represent the best work of more than 300 local radio and television newsrooms. A record 4,600 entries were submitted for this year’s competition.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.
