LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Veterans Day is on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 and many organizations are offering free or discounted items and experiences for veterans to honor their service.
In Louisville, the city is celebrating a Week of Valor with a series of events to recognize and celebrate local veterans. Many events are free to the public and some have gone virtual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They will also receive 10% off at the gift shop and 50% off all food and drinks. Learn more about the Louisville Zoo's Veterans Day event here.
On Veterans Day, military service members can receive a free Spaghetti with Meat or Marinara at local Fazoli’s locations. A military ID, discharge card or uniform is required for the discount.
Fazoli's Reward members can also receive a BOGO Spaghetti with Meat or Marinara through the Fazoli's app on Nov. 11.
Joella’s Hot Chicken is offering a free meal for all veterans and active duty military members on Veterans Day. There are two locations in Louisville, one in Middletown and one in St. Matthews, and a location in Clarksville, Ind. is scheduled to open soon.
Joella’s also offers a 10% discount to veterans and military personnel year-round.
Pilot Flying J Travel Centers
From Nov. 9 through 15, all U.S. military veterans are eligible for a free breakfast combo meal at participating Pilot Flying J Travel Centers through the Pilot Flying J mobile app. The combo offer includes a free Pilot Coffee and a breakfast item.
The company has also launched an in-store fundraiser benefiting Wreaths Across America. The fundraiser runs through Dec. 31.
Daniel Boone National Forest
The Daniel Boone National Forest is waiving fees at most recreation and camping sites in honor of Veterans Day.
All sites except the Grove Drive-in Campground will be free to the public Wednesday. Fees for overnight camping at designated campgrounds and the Red River Gorge backcountry will also be waived.
“While the fee waiver applies to all members of the public, we’d like to extend a special invitation to our veterans and their families to come explore and enjoy their public lands," said Forest Supervisor Dan Olsen.
Veterans and active military personnel can get free Basic Washes at all 28 Mike's Carwash locations on Wednesday. An option to upgrade to the "Ultimate Wash" will be available for $5 and the proceeds will be donated back to Project Hero.
For non-veterans, Ultimate Washes will be $15 and $1 from each wash will go back to Project Hero.
Veterans can enjoy one free Breakfast Combo Meal at participating McDonald's restaurants in Louisville, Lexington and southern Indiana. The offer is only valid through 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Bubba's 33 in Clarksville, Ind. is offering free lunch for veterans and active military members on Nov. 11. The meal includes one of six entrees plus a choice of soda, tea or coffee.
If someone is unable to attend the event, the restaurant will give out raincheck vouchers in their parking lot tent. The vouchers will be good through June 30, 2021.
All veterans who visit Gordon Biersch on Veterans Day can get one of four complimentary entrees with proof of service. Additionally, 25 cents from every beer sold on Veterans Day will go toward a veterans charity.
Offer is for dine-in customers only.
All active duty and retired military personnel are invited to participating Logan's Roadhouse locations can enjoy a free meal between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Nov. 11.
Golden Corral is giving veterans and active-duty military personnel a free meal and beverage card during the month of November. The card can be redeemed for lunch or dinner Monday through Friday from Nov. 1 through May 31, 2020.
All active-duty military personnel and veterans can receive a select entree for free on Wednesday at participating O'Charley's locations.
The restaurant chain is also hosting a virtual concert series fundraiser for the Folded Flag Donation featuring performances by Thompson Square, Tenille Arts and Russell Dickerson. The event will be live on their Facebook page Wednesday evening starting at 6 p.m.
