United Way remains committed to helping those financially burdened by COVID-19

The United Way anticipates increased financial burden as people's unemployment becomes exhausted and after stimulus money is spent.

TOLEDO, Ohio —

The coronavirus pandemic continues to have an impact on people nationwide and here in our area; physically, emotionally and financially.

"We're going to see the repercussions of COVID not just the next couple of months, but over the next year even. The people are really gonna need to bounce back from this really significant financial hit," said Jill Bungi, Director of Community Impact for United Way of Greater Toledo.

The coronavirus curve might be flattening in Ohio but there are many in our community that still feeling the financial burden COVID-19 left behind.

"We know folks that are still unemployed or who may have exhausted their stimulus money and are no longer receiving unemployment. They may really find themselves in a challenging situation in the next coming months," said Bungi.

Bungi also says it might take a few months to a year to bounce back financially from coronavirus. For those who need help the United Way of Greater Toledo is reminding them - meals and hygiene products can be accessed by dialing 2-1-1.

2-1-1 is a free confidential information and referral hotline that is open 24/7. It serves Lucas, Wood and Ottawa Counties.

And if English isn't your first language, they also offer translation services for non-English speakers in the community.
