TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Toledo Police Chief George Kral issued an apology during a meeting Tuesday, that pertained to all injuries sustained by peaceful protesters on Saturday May 30.

"We have reviewed dozens of images and videos of peaceful protesters who were hurt on that day. We both support why the protesters were there that day, and why they have chosen to peacefully march on subsequent days," they said in the statement.

The meeting consisted of the Toledo Police Department, City administration and protest leaders to discuss police and community relations according to tweet by TPD.

The tweet also mentioned that another meeting has been scheduled in June and that Kral is committed to keeping an open dialogue with protester leaders.

Defunding TPD was also discussed in the meeting. Both the mayor and Kral were against the idea, however the mayor admitted that the police department does take a large percentage of the city's budget

The mayor also said that the city is committed to giving $55 million over a 5-year plan that will address inequities in housing, healthcare, job training and education.
