Tiffin downtown street-scaping project to extend towards Heidelberg University

A federal grant will allow the project to expand.

TIFFIN, Ohio — A major street improvement project has been extended for the city of Tiffin thanks to federal grant dollars.

Currently, the nearly one million dollar street-scaping project is slowly revitalizing the Market Street corridor in downtown Tiffin.

New sidewalks, curbs, stamped concrete and decorative street lights are being installed in conjunction with the establishing of the new East Green amphitheater and upcoming splash pad.

The project was extended after the city received a grant from a program within the Ohio Department of Transportation.

"Creating walkability is what small towns are all about. And in Tiffin, OH, you'd like to think that you can walk anywhere in this community. And that's why we have a program where every year we're putting in sidewalks in areas where they don't exist or fixing existing sidewalks," Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said.

The project is not only beautifying the outbound Market Street but the inbound Perry Street as well.

Once complete, the project is expected to also help future development as it will raise property values for homes and businesses.

"There's a lot of older homes that it's be nice to see revitalized and brought back to life in this corridor, as well as a lot of civic and government offices," Montz said.

The street-scaping project is expected to be complete in  August.

But the city has already begun the process of applying for another grant to fund a similar street-scaping project for the southern end of Tiffin's downtown along Washington Street.
