Power outage in Maumee could last 12 hours after police pursuit ends in crash

The driver is on the run after the crash.

MAUMEE, Ohio — A police pursuit ends in a crash and a power outage in Maumee early Monday morning.

The crash ended around 1:30 a.m. on Conant near the Meijer store.

Police say the chase started in Toledo and came down Reynolds Road at a high speed before the driver lost control and crashed into a pole.

Police say the driver was spotted getting out of the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.

Police searched the area but could not find the driver.

The crash caused a power outage as wires were left everywhere.

Toledo Edison crews are on the scene and say power could be out in the area for the next 10 to 12 hours as they work to repair the damage.

Their estimated restoration time is 3:30 p.m.

Conant is shut down in both directions as crews work to clear the scene and restore power.

"What we're asking is that commuters to work avoid this area. They're going to have to find another way to go, either north or south getting through the city of Maumee," said Maumee Police Chief Dave Tullis. "You can use Key St., Cass Rd. I-475, but stay off Route 20 or Conant Street/Reynolds."
