TOLEDO (WTOL) - Toledo police have deemed a threat directed toward McTigue Elementary is not credible after an investigation into the threat.

A parent of one of the students said her son heard that another student made threats to shoot up the school.

Police interviewed the student who made the threat and deemed it not credible.

Chief of Staff of McTigue Elementary James Gant released this statement regarding the threat:

A McTigue Elementary student made a verbal threat against the school late yesterday and other students overheard the comment. As student safety remains the number one priority for Toledo Public Schools, officers from the Department of Public Safety investigated the incident last night and the student now faces disciplinary action. The school day at McTigue was not interrupted by this situation. We would like to use this incident as a reminder to parents and students that inappropriate comments or threats made to others or posted on social media in moments of anger or frustration can lead to serious consequences. Toledo Public Schools takes such matters very seriously and they will not be tolerated.
