TOLEDO, Ohio — One man is dead after being hit by a car in south Toledo Tuesday morning.

Police say 23-year-old Jonah Montalbano was standing in the middle of the road dressed in black clothing when he was hit by 59-year-old Michael Jesse of Bryan.

According to witnesses on the scene, Jesse said the victim was standing in the middle of the road and he never saw him.

Two women came onto the scene after Montalbano was hit; one called 911 while the other began chest compressions on Montalbano.

Montalbano was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police identified Montalbano through Facebook, where he posted earlier this month that he was "ready to die."

Police say a worker at Lenny's Bar on Airport Highway said she met Montalbano there and he also said he was ready to die before he left the bar.

Jesse was not injured in the crash.
