TOLEDO, Ohio — Local children who are grieving the loss of a parent or other loved one will have a place of healing and community this summer.

Hospice of Northwest Ohio is sponsoring the Path Finders Camp at Camp Miakonda from July 25-28. It is described as a fun and supportive camp experience for grieving children.

Children and teens will have the chance to interact with others who have gone through similar losses in a safe and supportive environment. Licensed counselors, social workers and trained volunteers will lead the groups.

Campers will be able to honor the memory of the person who died, learn coping skills and take part in outdoor games and activities. Organizers also hope they will also make some new friends along the way.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on each day and lunch and snacks will be provided. Thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors, there is no cost to attend the camp.

The key sponsors this year are Key Bank, Trustee for the Terhune Fund and Yark Subaru.

Camp Miakonda is located at 5600 West Sylvania Avenue in Toledo.

Parents can find and complete the registration form here. The deadline to register is June 12.

Hospice of Northwest Ohio says children are not officially registered for the camp until their application has been reviewed and then confirmed by their staff.

Parents will get a phone call for that confirmation and an email to confirm that the application has been received.
