COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people are dead and four others are injured after being shot inside a south Columbus nightclub early Saturday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Officers responded to Tha Plug nightclub in the 1500 block of South High Street around 5:10 a.m. following reports of a shooting.
At the scene, officers found six male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 21-year-old Antwaun Artis, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:18 a.m. The other four men were transported to local hospitals for treatment, and are all described as "stable."
Columbus police said that a fifth victim, 22-year-old Jayden Peacock, walked into Nationwide Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead just after 6 a.m.
Columbus police said no arrests have been made. No information on a possible suspect has been released.
Maddy Amiton, a woman who lives in the area, told 10TV that she has heard gunshots in the neighborhood before, but Saturday's incident was a different story.
"It was pretty scary,” said Amiton. “It sounded like a whole bunch of gunshots, maybe a dozen."
Amiton said she saw two people laying on the ground, and some running and screaming. She wants more attention to be brought to incidents like this, and for the city to increase its safety measures.
“I just think that, that the communities that live in this neighborhood, they deserve a lot more, and they deserve to be treated with respect and not just forgotten about when something bad happens,” said Amiton.
10TV reached out to the nightclub several times for comment, but they did not respond.
The incident remains under investigation.
