DR. GEORGE BULLERJAHN - RESEARCH PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY AT BGSU
Let it rain. Wait, no... make it stop! It's June and that means we're already watching the lake. History tells us wet springs make for big blooms in the heat of late summer.
Dr. George Bullerjahn, research professor of biology at Bowling Green State University, heads the BGSU Lake Erie Center for Fresh Waters and Human Health. Funded by a more than $5 million federal grant, the center leads efforts to study and understand harmful algal blooms that threaten the health of humans and animals. Remember the Toledo water crisis of 2014? It was the first weekend in August. Its fifth anniversary is coming up soon.
Dr. Bullerjahn sits down at the Leading Edge table to explain the science of what's going on with Toledo's algal blooms.
DAVE ZENK - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF METROPARKS TOLEDO
Metroparks: that word alone will get you thinking about at least one of them. 'Tis the season, though the metroparks offer something year-round it seems.
Dave Zenk is the executive director of Metroparks Toledo. He discusses ongoing expansion at the Leading Edge table.
DR. KEVIN MILLER - SUPERINTENDENT OF OTTAWA HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT
School's out for the summer, but that doesn't stop us from talking about education. It's critically important to our youngsters, but also important to the economic well-being of our community.
Late last year, Kevin Miller, superintendent of the Ottawa Hills school district was named "Superintendent of the "Year by the Buckeye Association of School Administrators. Dr. Miller has been at the helm of the Ottawa Hills district for the past nine years, but is set to depart later on this summer.
Dr. Miller discusses his departure, as well as the success of his school district, at the Leading Edge table.
