'Do-It-Yourself Jr. Conservationist' program keeps kids active and learning about nature

Participants in the free program will learn about soil, water, plants, animals, community and nature exploration through pre-planned activities in each category.

Let your kid become one with nature this summer as part of the "Do-It-Yourself Jr. Conservationist" program.

Leaders with the Northwest Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Districts are offering the free, at-home program for kids to get hands-on while learning.

Participants will learn about soil, water, plants, animals, community and nature exploration through pre-planned activities in each category. Students can register online and will receive a welcome letter when their registration is accepted. To complete the program, participants will send photos of themselves doing the activities or of their finished projects to their local county SWCD contact by Friday, Aug. 28.

After the program is completed and your photos are received, you'll be sent a free certificate and will be able to purchase a Jr. Conservationist t-shirt for $10, unless sponsored for free by your local SWCD.

If you don't want to register or receive a certificate or t-shirt, you can still take part in the activities for free on your own by clicking here.

The Lucas SWCD will sponsor t-shirts for the first 40 Jr. Conservations to complete the program in the county.

If you are interested, contact Jamie Kochensparger with the Lucas SWCD at 419-893-1966, ext. 2 or click here to register.
