State Patrol investigates fatal pedestrian crash on I-475 Friday

A woman was struck by a passing vehicle on I-475 at Corey Road on Friday night. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman is dead after being hit by a tractor-trailer on I-475 in Sylvania Township on Friday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on I-475 eastbound near the Corey Road exit around 9:30 p.m.

Police say a disabled Jeep Compass was stopped in the left lane of eastbound I-475. That's when an eastbound Kenworth tractor trailer being driven by Mark Morgan, 59, of Tiffin struck the Jeep.

A pedestrian, 32-year-old Bryona Blacksten, was standing outside of the Jeep when it was struck by the Kenworth.

Blacksten was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morgan sustained no injuries from the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

I-475 eastbound was shut down for approximately five hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
